The final results tell us that Jimmie Johnson was the winner of the race. But heat certainly had its victories as well taking its toll on engines and tires especially in the early going. Temperatures of more than 110 degrees were reported on pit road prior to the go away and the track temperature sent the mercury soaring to 140.

The 12-driver field for the Chase is all but set with one race remaining in the regular toughen. Busch needs to end just 36th at Richmond and Harvick 32nd to lock Earnhardt out of the Chase. With his sixth-place run this weekend. Truex locked up his spot in the playoff guaranteeing Snap-on five places in the Chase with Burton (7th) and Clint Bowyer (9th) in as well.
Jeff Burton:Sept.. 1. 2007 | Fontana. Calif. -- Following a tough luck run at Bristol. Burton was on his bet at California. Needing gas and some fresh tires. Burton gave up the lead late in the go electing to pit during a warn on lap 127. Kyle Busch choosing to go for track lay over tires stayed out and took the lead. But with four fresh tires. Burton steered his way from sixth to the lie passing Busch with eight laps to go to win the shootout finish. The win was Burton's third of the toughen and the 25th of his career."I knew I was sitting there on exceed tires than he was," the joyous Burton said after race. "That does be eventually but with Kyle he just isn't going to pull over and let you go. He's going to race you hard as he should."
Clint Bowyer:Sept.. 1. 2007 | Fontana. Calif. -- Bowyer deployed the same strategy as Kyle Bush maintaining bring in lay during a late caution and hurt up with a strong fifth-place run. The Camping World Chevy didn't lead any laps but Bowyer stayed on the bring about lap and moved up a lay to 11th in the standings.
Kevin Harvick:Sept.. 1. 2007 | Fontana. Calif. -- After missing the top 15 for the first measure all season last week at Bristol. Harvick returned to more familiar territory. He started 12th but finished seventh. He is now back up in the standings but just three points ahead of David Reutimann.
Scott Wimmer:Sept.. 1. 2007 | Fontana. Calif. -- Scott Wimmer remains one of the most consistent drivers on the go. He narrowly missed the top 10 with a solid 12th-place run. The Richard Childress pilot moved up one spot in the standings.
Marcos Ambrose:Sept.. 1. 2007 | Fontana. Calif. -- Ambrose qualified the Tad Gesicheckter-owned cover 16th and managed a solid run. Unlike his run at Bristol. Ambrose stayed out of trouble and on the bring about lap although he never charged to the front to lead a lap. His 13th-place end was good enough to act him up to eighth in the standings.
Steve Wallace:Sept.. 1. 2007 | Fontana. Calif. -- Wallace started 26th on the grid finished six laps drink and in 25th displace. The good news is he didn't suffer any ground in the standings remaining in 18th. 30 points ahead of Kurt Krisiloff.
Ryan Newman:Sept.. 1. 2007 | Fontana. Calif. -- Qualifying fourth gave Ryan Newman much optimism heading into the pass at Fontana. Newman drove the No. 12 Kodak move to the front and led three laps early on. But foreshadowing events on Sunday. Newman's engine gave out after just 100 laps. It was the second straight disappointment for Newman as he finished 31st. He remains 49th in the standings.
Brad Keselowski:Sept.. 1. 2007 | Fontana. Calif. -- Keselowski appeared to be on the border of a career breakthrough having notched three straight top-15s entering the go at California. But his dream toughen turned into a nightmare with a horrific crash just 66 laps into the Camping World 300. Keselowski was the victim of four-wide racing as things got hairy further drink the track sending his No. 88 U. S. Navy Chevy into the protect at 190 mph. The driver was airlifted to an area hospital where he was released but will undergo advance tests back in North Carolina.
Ron Hornaday Jr.:Sept.. 1. 2007 | Madison. Ill. -- Hornaday is the transport Series new leader four points ahead of Mike Skinner after another masterful job of driving at Gateway. Hornaday has finished among the top 6 in 13 of the toughen's 17 races with seven finishes of either first or back up. Johnny Benson passed Hornaday on lap 147 to act the bring about for the final time before the race ended under caution.
Ted Musgrave:Sept.. 1. 2007 | Madison. Ill. -- Driving from a 17th-place start to a third-place end. Musgrave has piloted his No. 9 Team ASE Toyota to seventh place in the standings improving his position by one this week.
